Turismo en la Costa de Azahar

The Orange Blossom Coast

The Costa Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast) extends along the coast line of Castellón, the most northern part of what was the Kingdom of Valencia. Extending over one hundred and twenty kilometres, the area is home to fine and warm beaches and wild, beautiful coves, all bathed by the calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Inland, there are lush pine and oak forests and immense orange groves. The coastline is bordered to the north by Catalonia, to the west by Aragon and to the south by the province of Valencia, in the unique area where the Alto Palencia and La Plana regions come to an end.

The"Costa Azahar" guarantees almost three hundred days of sunshine every year and an average temperature of 18ºCentigrade. These factors make it an excellent location to enjoy throughout the year as a Mediterranean climate with long, hot, dry summers and mild winters makes it an ideal place to live and enjoy the extraordinary attractions that this Spanish provinces offers to visitors.

The province of Castellón is also the second most mountainous in Spain, blending perfectly with the coastline with the clean beaches combining gently with an interior that declines gently as it meets the coast.

The tourist area in Castellón on the coastline is well communicated. The A7 motorway crosses the province from North to South, with wide access roads serving towns; the area is also served by an excellent railway network and access by air and sea, thanks to the short distance to Valencia, the Region's capital. The province will soon have its own airport installations, making it even easier to visit our region.

Castellón is a province with a strong industrial base with deep agricultural roots. Eighty percent of the Spanish Tile Industry is concentrated in this province, in perfect harmony with the growing and sale of citrus fruits, with the ubiquitous tree being the "Costa Azahar" orange tree, with its blossom, known in Spanish as "el Azahar" giving its name to the coastline.

Fishing has traditionally been an important industry in the province, with this part of the Mediterranean being very rich in fish and shellfish. Tourism has gradually increased in importance and is now one of the predominant industries in the area. Tourism professionals have made the most of the magnificent resources and natural beauty of the "Costa Azahar", complementing it with a modern offer including hotels, campsites and restaurants, as well as golf courses and Marinas.
